Show Notes

Are you a planner and a goal setter? Someone who likes to help others arrange their finances with a biblical worldview? If that sounds like you, you’ll be excited to hear there’s a whole new career field for you as a Christian Financial Planner. Rob talks about that with Kurt Cornfield of Liberty University, then it’s on to your calls at 800-525-7000. This is MoneyWise Live - biblical wisdom for your financial journey.

Kurt Cornfield is Associate Professor of Financial Planning at Liberty University, a Certified Financial Planner and a Certified Kingdom Advisor so he’s got a few diplomas on his wall. Rob and Kurt cover these topics and questions:

  • You’ve been working on developing the Christian Financial Planner program for a while and now it’s ready. Explain it for us.
  • Is Christian Financial Planner a bachelor program or INCORPORATED into a bachelor program?
  • So this adds CFP right alongside Certified Kingdom Advisor?
  • You are hearing from advisors showing up on campus to interview students, right?
  • You have a some estimates on the number of graduates working on Certified Kingdom Advisor. Can you give a rough number on that?
  • What does this program entail? How many years and the type of education they will receive?
  • Describe what is going on around and the country similar to your program and what other universities have programs like this?
  • Give us a sense of what happens with these students as you walk along
  • what happens when they see opportunities to blend their profession with their ministry calling.
  • Tell us about the annual conference and the role of these students as they become involved in that?

Extra Year-End Giving Mention (at the beginning of any segment:

  • You know, we continue to receive stories and testimonies from listeners everywhere about the wisdom and faithfulness of God’s Word. If you listen to this program regularly and apply what His Word says about money, you know that his word works! Testimonies like Lynn in Kentucky confirm how God can provide in very difficult times. She shared this recently on our program - “My husband had a massive stroke and required extensive medical care, plus we had to begin the filing process for long-term disability. Thankfully we had six months of reserves due to the encouragement and wise biblical teaching that we read and heard from MoneyWise. Then when our reserves were depleted, our brothers and sisters in Christ helped us, too. Our needs were met during this time, but it all started when we made the decision to save. Thank you for your ministry.” Our desire at MoneyWise is to have more divine opportunities like this one to remind and encourage people to follow his wisdom. If you’re considering now where to give at the end of the year, please consider a gift to MoneyWise. Like you, our goal is to be excellent stewards of the resources entrusted to us. Next, Rob answers these questions at 800-525-7000 or via email at Questions@MoneyWiseLive.org:

  • If you bought a universal life policy for your dad when he was 61 in 1995, the premium paid in is getting close to the death benefit and it's rising each year, what should you doing considering you've paid in so much?
  • If you currently live in your mom's house, you have a rental property you want to sell for $318,000 that is debt free, when you sell the rental, should you use the proceeds to pay down debt or re-deploy that money into the other property?
  • If you have a 401(k) at work that you began to manage and it's only earned .71% this year, what's a reasonable rate of return?
  • How long does it take the CKA designation from Liberty University?
  • If you're turning 60 soon and wanting to drop your supplement plan because it's almost doubled to $919 per month, should you considering just banking the premiums?
